Believe it or not but you oral health is a reflection of your total health and this is reason it is so important to consistently receive bi-annual dental exam and cleanings. This simple 1 hour appointment will aid in the prevention of a long list of health issues that are essentially the result from bacteria and tarter build up around your teeth and gums.
How Often Should I Have Dental Cleaning?
Dr. Raoufinia recommends bi-annual dental exams and cleanings in order to maintain your smile’s optimal health and appearance. Its important to note that no matter how often you brush and floss, plaque and tartar (calculus) deposits will occur. Simply put, the professional teeth cleaning is the most effective way to remove these deposits. This will prevent the build up that occurs from causing more serious problems in the future like gum disease (periodontal disease). The plaque and bacteria that builds up also causes cavities. Also remember that a healthy mouth and gums will help you avoid bad breath. Routine dental cleanings every 6 months is critical in maintaining healthy teeth and gums.
What Should I Expect During the Initial Appointment?
During your initial appointment with us, a through clinical examination of your gums and teeth are made along with Radiographs (X-Rays) to help us see inside and what the eyes can not. Treatment recommendations are made and how to proceed forward. A dental cleaning is also performed during this initial appointment. In some cases a “Deep Cleaning” (Scaling & Root Planing) is recommended in order to properly clean and stop the progression gum disease (periodontal disease).
What is a Routine 6 Month Recall?
When there is no presence of gum disease, we will schedule you for your “6 Month Recall” which is your “Routine Dental Cleaning” appointment. At each of these appointments, we re-examine all your teeth and gums to make sure there are no issues that have come up since your last appointment. Remember its essential to keep your appointments and visit us every 6 months, a lot of things happen in that time frame and if a little problem arises, its easy to take care of it before it becomes a bigger problem. Research has shown you are less likely to have major dental problems if you maintain a 6 month dental exam and cleaning.
